What Material Should You Use to Build Your Patio Cover
Once you have made a decision to go ahead and build a patio cover, you then need to choose what material you want to use. The best one will greatly depend on what your needs are. To help you with this selection, we have provided a shortlist of all the pros and cons of each material below.
Wood
This as you know is a natural material that has been used for years, and it can offer an organic beauty that is difficult to match. And, it is available in numerous different types, textures, and colors, making it easy to match your home’s style. Depending on the type of wood you use, you can also get away with the minimal cost with regards to outlay.
However, wood is infamous for rotting and warping. So it is not recommended for houses that are close to the sea or in humid climates due to the sunshine, humidity, and salt. Even in non-humid climates, wood will still need maintenance with regards to staining and repainting. It is an ideal material to use as a patio enclosure in drier climates or if you are not planning on staying at a residence for more than a couple of years.
Aluminum
This is an abundant element and seems to have it all. It is cost-effective, durable, and only needs minimal maintenance. It is also lightweight but durable. An aluminum cover can provide good protection as it doesn’t crack, warp or rot. And, because it is metal, it conducts heat very easily. However in the summer, it will turn the air uncomfortable, so it is best suited in cloudier climates.
Vinyl
As a low-maintenance material, this will make a good option. Because it does not peel, rot or crack, it is more durable than wood. Vinyl is available in limited colors though, and, you cannot paint it. Which makes it difficult to get a color that will match your home.
